Click this link below to see Jun and July's Articles See the Articles for June and July Here ![]() Hi everyone, first and foremost let me begin by saying that I am still in awe and totally perplexed with my new reign as "Speak Your Mind Member" for 2004. I was totally surprised as you can see in the picture. I will do my best to promote SYM at every occassion, function, gathering, outing or event! I will wear my tiara with pride everytime I'm at SYM. I can name certain individuals who are just as worthy as I, nonetheless, a golden & colorful thank you from ShAnTii's little heart (sniff sniff), and that my friends, is an accurate statement that I have just affirmated at this juncture. It was an enjoyable evening on Friday, August 20, 2004 as we celebrated the groups 2nd Anniversary as, 'Speak Your Mind.' 'SYM' was innitiated on Aug of 2002 by "Henry" with a phone call from a friend, and one thing lead to another and now, here we are. For many of us, we have known each other a longer period than others, and for some of us, for a few months, but in all, we have come together and bonded through the tight circle we call 'Speak Your Mind.' (For those of you who are guests or visiting our site - the meaning for SYM is found on our homepage, incase you have not read it along with our mission statement.) Fantastic Attendance by: Many SYM members and friends. The food was SPECTACULAR - chicken corn chowder, brisket, nachos, rice, beans, potato salad, lemon lush pie, beer, drinks etc.... it was just totally peachy. Door prizes and gifts were given away throughout the night and (don't forget to use your ShAnTii certificate on or before September 1st - wink). The music kept the party going all night long and the strobe light was not turned off till after 3 a.m. This has been a milestone for us all in what we have done and accomplished. Who would've ever known - AN OFFICIAL ALL RIGHTS RESERVED INTERNET SITE - that is kewl and sweet and and the best is still yet to come. I will see all of you in the next gathering or endeavor we set out to do. In conclusion, Thank You Juan & Miguel for allowing and giving to us, Speak Your Mind (for many steamy conversations, games, drinks and more), Cha Cha Heels Bistro (for the steaks, esquisite dinners, snacks and whatever our little hearts desire) and The Black Velvet Patio Lounge (for the barbecues, talks and blankets on the grass, pictures, SYM bonfires etc..), we are ALL eternally greatful and I know I speak on behalf of all of us. Voyager, even though we send the articles, pictures, comments etc... the site would not be possible without your hard, countless hours of exhaustion, frustration and tidious reboots and ongoing work. You are top knotch and a F&%%ing Awesome Web Master and I can say that without a doubt, because I have visited hundreds of sites over the years. Last, each and every SYM member contributes to the group in their own way and style and that is what makes this group "UNIQUE." Keep The World Turning!!!! VIVA - SPEAK YOUR MIND - VIVA.....!!! As the second Anniversary of Speak Your Mind approaches this week, I'd like to take this time to reminisce about SYM. We have met many wonderful and interesting people in these two years and as we have said, "it all started by everyone that has visited SYM returning with their friends and then my friends met someone else's friends and they brought some of there friends and the journey continued." The list is too big to write everyones name here but it will be posted on the site soon. It began with hanging out with friends and enjoying our favorite drink, listening to great music and then there were the great SYM BBQ's, outings, concerts, plays, and playing all types of games. This diverse group has nothing to do with our sexual orientation. It is about a group of friends, both Gay and Straight. The most beautiful thing is when you see someone who never knew, or was used to being around a gay person (someone sure of their own sexuality) or seemed a bit homophobic, one day you see the change in them when you can see that they realize that everyone is alike, a person, all with the same problems in life and everyone with different personalities and traits. That is when you know that SYM has reached its goal of creating a unique group of people where everyone can be himself or herself and develop friendships that will last a lifetime. People of all ages have visited SYM and have found out that not everyone is what they initially thought. It doesn't matter who you are. People will leave SYM the first time with a different impression of SYM. No one is here to "hook-up" with anyone (unless it is mutual) we are here for friendship and having fun in a place that no one is judged by who their friends are. There are all types of people, all types of professions that makeup SYM. We have visited many places with straight and gay friends. People who you would never thought of seeing at some places. Our outings include Spring break 2004, Spring Splash 2004, The Record breaking Phantom of the Opera Play, World Famous DJPaul Van Dyk concerts in Dallas and Houston, DJ Tiesto concert in Dallas, The Orgy concert and the Kiss concert at the Dodge arena, the many visits to MoulinRouge, The New Upper Deck, Ibiza, Bucanas, AK's, Bananas, the happy hours at the Blue Shell, Chili's, the Birthday celebrations at the Steakhouse, Los Camperos, Johnny Carino's, and the Chinese Restaurants and this Friday the 13th after a visit to Val's Goth night, we went to Joey's Birthday rave at Boca Chica Beach which was from Sunset to Sunrise with the music played by mixologist DJ Dean Martin, and Last but not least Val's- Like Nowhere else. Sym has been visiting Valentino's (Our home away from home) since Aug 2002 and it continues to grow. The other day I was reviewing some site stats, and I have seen that we were visited by Winfred from China- "I wish we could have something like that club here" then I remembered how lucky we are to be here in the good ol' US of A. Also a straight boy from outside of Texas who also enjoyed looking thru the site and especially the Valentino's page has visited us. "It is a very different site" he said. "I've never seen a site like that." He now has it book marked in his favorites. So now SYM has reached people in places we never Imagined and we have a SYM Kansas friends and Our SYM Austin group as we met when we went to the Phantom trip this year. Yes what wonderful memories we will have and have had. The SYM site has now jumped to over 400 visitors a month and the site is viewed by people throughout the Rio Grand Valley, California, Victoria Mexico, and who knows where else as some do not send E-mails with comments. Yes, what a great group we have with SYM and may it continue to grow past the over 100 members and who knows how many friends of SYM we there are. Never did we imagine we would grow as we have and now this week the celebration continues........ voyager If your wondering why most of the articles are gay themed it's because I can't get any of the straight boys to write any. They'd rather party at SYM and enjoy. ANYONE IS WELCOMED TO WRTIE AND SUBMIT an article of intrest to all. ![]() See the Pics and Read the article here ![]() Two Years and Going Stronger than ever for Valentinos What a massive and stunning celebration it was on Sunday, August 8, 2004. Mariachis, singer: Mario Arredondo, Apollo Male Dancers: Bryce & Jason, Valentino's Leading Star: Michelle D' Marco, Miss Valentino's 2004: Dion Sommers, The Sizzling Diva: Kanela and the Valleys Living Legend: Tanya Lee all did extraordinary performances that festive night. Jalapeno's Bar & Grill from McAllen provided the grand buffet and it was delicious as I (ShAnTii) ate 2 plates/maybe 3. It was a grand party just like Tanya Lee's Birthday Party Bash! From the New Years Eve Party, Valentine's, Benefits, Easter Celebration, White Night, Hawaiian, 4th of July, Miss Valentino's 2004 and more......Valentinos & Crew know how to throw an explosive party!!! Two years of Valentino's - and all I have to say is - Wooooow! Time sure flies when you are having fun and partying week after week. I will never forget the first time I walked into Valentino's about a year and a half ago. I had just dropped off a friend at home and I was driving towards my house, when I heard a song on the radio that got me into the club & dancing mood, "Bizarre Love Triangle." I decided then to go on a little cruize and to make a long story short, I ended up at the parking lot at Valentino's. I was nervous of going into the club since I was alone and had NEVER attended before. Though, I had heard wonderful things about Vals I was in doubt about going in alone. I payed my cover and walked in and headed towards the back end of the club. I truly believe that Destiny brought me to the room in which we call "The Sauna." There I saw Miguel & Louie and we all got excited (me doing my oingus boingus sounds), we exchanged hand shakes, hugs & hellos. I could not believe the odds of finding them there in which we were later joined by Juan and Henry that evening. It was the night I was introduced to Valentino's and the 3 Muskateers, "Ricardo, Carlos & Sammy." Brownsville's #1 waiters and the ever-so-popular Dj Checo. Now, I consider Valentino's a home away from home. I've probably visited Vals about 100 times and that is nothing in comparison to some of my SYM friends who were faithful club goers before I even arrived at the scene of it all. haha Tons of shows, strippers, memorable moments, buffets, pool games, dance routines, drunken episodes, parties and PICTURES GALORE we have shared. It is by far the best place to party in the Brownsville, leaving in my opinion, Ak's, Cobbleheads, Bucana's, Banana's and other clubs at 2nd best. From straight, gay, bi, confused, lost and out of this world people EVERYONE goes to V A L E N T I N O S!! Like their jingle says, "Welcome to Valentinos, the place where anything can happen!" I have had so many beautiful moments within those walls that I will treasure a lifetime. Many mental pictures as well in which I hold in my heart dearly. My friends, thanks for a lovely ride to each and every one of you. TO EVERYONE WHO WORKS AT VALENTINOS OR WHO HAS WORKED AT VALENTINOS - Thanks for everything, Happy 2nd Anniversary and most significantly--Happy Birthday Val Baby ......!!!!! mua* ::clink clink:: now sip on the wine.... ShAnTii ![]() Whirlwind of Partying....! Shankle 2 - here for my latest in 'party news.' Extreme Sizzle is all I can say about this summer 2004 Gothic News: #1 on my list has to be Friday nights at Vals and I have remained loyal to "Gothic" night at Valentinos since it debuted on Friday, April 30th, but actually kicked off on Friday, May 7th with heavy promotion. It has been an elite experience for me and for my memory box. - will always be extremely memorable for me - wink!!! DJ AcId, definitely has come a long way and has made a name for himself, gained some respect and hell, even been offered drinks by loyal club goers. Congrats ACID! Shout out also to Dj DeNiSe, Dj Checo, and Oscar! They mix it up pretty good as well. Goth Nite has had a 13 week run and has done quite well and went way longer than, "Tejano Night." Even if it were to be obsolete in the near future, it has truly been a great success and a $@#%load of fun. Bucanas: Inspite that Alternative Night at Bucana's is on Wednesdays, we are still there as much as we can. I have to admit that I have been dragging along to go out and party on Wednesday nights, but when I do go out with My fellow SYM (Speak Your Mind) frienz, it is a chaotic night as always. I would go into details, but you can simply go back to the old archives and re-read some of the articles. We have celebrated several birthdays at Bucs(J.P., Rosa, Juan & Miguel etc..) and a farewell (Vickie), but the party does and will continue for as long as they accept us there on Wednesdays. If my mind serves me right, I believe Bucana's would be hosting Alternative Nights 1 year this coming October, just around the corner. Vals: Valentino's is looking classier than ever. For those of you that walk in and do not look around, next time you do visit the club - walk a bit slower and take a glance. Huge, comfortable sofas have been installed throughout the club. That is a definite plus and gives it a major face lift. The sauna is not the only room with sofas anymore! haha The 2nd floor VIP section has also been remodeled and has an extended bar and more seating area as well. Green & red laser lights and regular colored lights have been added over the dance floor and stage area making it a lot prettier and fun to dance. You will also hear more 'sounds' in addition to the siren to pump up the party a little. Red light specials are promoted with 50 cent shots and nachos w/jalapenos are given on Friday and Sunday Nights. MmMmm Can't get better than that. See ya at the club SYM. SYM Outings: We have had a lot of fun doing a little bit of everything. Even though, not all 40, 50, 60, 70 - 100 people haha can get together at one time, still, it is fun when any number of us gets together. Whether it is at a Barbecue at SYM, Lynn's, Chopstix, Chili's, 77 Restaurant, Brownsville Coffee Shop, Blue Shell and countless of other restaurants playing cards, monopoly, uno, being online and 10 people trying to share one lap top, watching Queer As Folk at Henrys or SYM, being bondaged by Louie, Karaoke at Cha Cha Heels, trips to the island, upper deck, splash, concert outings by different members to Luis Miguel, Alejandro Sanz,Orgy, Dj Paul Van Dyke & Dj Tiesto, Sin Banderas, Christian Castro, burning & downloading muzik at my home with Acid, - IT'S ALL FUN!!!! Also.......As our 2nd Anniversary approaches of SYM, several discussions have opened up to discussion. Ideas and suggestions are welcomed. In addition to the festivities whether it is in town or out of town, I had suggested for us to meet up at SYM and caravan to the University or meet at the university where we could take pics at the amphitheatre stage with the roman pillars in the background. I hope we can schedule this in the near future. SYM shirts have also been brought up in the discussion and a SYM CD. This should be a lot of fun to plan and we hope to hear your ideas and info. UPCOMING: Next week-end, i'll write a major & massive article and take pics on the KISS Concert Louie & I will attend on Friday The 13th....and my birthday is coming up on Sept. 4th - hint - hint. Conclusion: On one last note, it has also been an emotional ride thus far these past 8 months. For some of us, more than others. Whether it was by loosing a loved one, friend or a quarrel with a friend, or simply distancing from others or ones self, breaking up with the "X", depression, sense of not belonging, etc.... Let's shake off old dust and start anew! Let's be refreshed with ourselves first -then for others. Thanks for all of your friendships - SPEAK YOUR MIND !!!!! Juan, Miguel it's been a loooong ride with you guys and I I appreciate everything you've done for me. Henry, you're one of a kind and thank you for your friendship. Monica, what can I say - dear Monica - you are as sweet as candy. And - Louie........., I've often told you that I consider you my source of medication. Thank you for EVERYTHING! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!! P.S. What is a letter without a p.s.? haha For those of you who do not like for me to take pictures of you, or tell me, Noooo don't take my picture, my hair is too ugly, turn that thing off, give it to me, i don't have make-up, i'll break your phone, not now, I look like $@#! etc.... You're stuck with pictures of me - para que se les quite ! Always, ShAnTii From SYM's Webmaster
Another Month goes bye.... As we enter August we realize that it's time for celebrations. Speak Your Mind is turning 2 this month and we are completing the final arrangements for a party to celebrate. Two Years ago I was sitting on a bar stool talking with my good friend Juan and I remember that my cell phone kept ringing and some friends were asking "where are you at" and I responded jokingly I'm at Speak Your Mind! From there on everyone started calling it Speak Your Mind(SYM). It was there that I met some good people who would later become friends. People like ShAnTii, Gilbert R., Louie, JP, Lette, Christina to name a few. My list shows 100. So Many visitors later and here we are today, celebrating 2 years. Oh how time passes. We started out with weekly newsletters to let everyone know what was gong on. Now we also celebrate 6 months of the SYM website and our 2000 site visitor. Remember to watch your e-mails for the celebration time.It is scheduled for Aug 20th. E-mail will be sent shortly or you can check the website soon. I have been busy working on the webpage almost everyday trying to come up with some ideas for the site plus getting news and reviewing e-mail requests, posting articles and pictures and working with Valentino's Publisist Myrna on entering information on the Val's page. All this and trying to work at my regular profession and run my Home for lost gay boys. So you can imagine that the web page is going to be better as time goes on and I settle my private life. I really would like to thank my friend Shankles (ShAnTii) for his help in keeping you all informed with the guirre and submitting picures for the site. Everyone has been so busy lately that everything is rushed. The Web team has Visited Valentinos everyday that it has been open these last 2 wks plus some if us went to Houston to see Paul Van Dyk, soon to be the Number one DJ in the world. Some also visit Ibiza, Bananas, and AK's but again we have not posted anything yet. So soon we will all sit back and relax for the SYM 2 yr celebration. Also Celebrating 2 yrs this Aug the 8th will be Valentino's. You can see the web page and see the events coming this week. I just made a photo page for the Val's page as we had more pictures to post. That page changes almost every 3 days as Myrna sends me what's happening this week. Take care you all and keep coming back to the site to see whats happening. I finally got Our mesage board working so that all SYM site visitors can use this board to speak their mind. Some of you have posted before it went berzerk but I think I fixed it now and although some messages were lost most are still there. So everyone-- Friends, Visitors and Members are encouraged to register on the board and start a post or put your 2 cents in it. Click the red button on the home page or the one on the Vals page, or on this page. or Just click here. Take care ....Voyager Joe Martinez is Going to take his State Board of Nursing Exam on Aug. 9th , we wish him good luck! Please go to our SYM Sound off Board and wish him luck under the SYm-Patio Lounge forum. ThanksSound OFF on our Message Board
