Heart Rock Gutted by Fire ShAnTii types a NO - SENSE Article...!!
7/14/05 ShAnTii It has been a long time since my last post...partially because I have been real busy with work and other stuff, but still have made time for this article. Unless something come's up and prevents me from not being able to write, I will promise to be a bit more consistent in writing for the popular 'GUIRRE.' I am exhausted, and I am going to go to sleep soon after typing this article, then of course it will be time to go to catch some Zzz's and get ready for work in the morning. I hope I have More And The QUEEN Is.........!!!
7-14-05 ShAnTii Ok - This is ShAnTii writing on how it was to be a judge for a "Drag Queen Pageant." It was a DIVINE experience judging the talent at the Miss Valentinos 2005 - The Pageant. I must say that a lot needs to be done and so much preparation for the grand and festive night. One thing though, the make-up is by far a lot more colourful, stylish, chic and sassy in drag pageants than a straight pageant. I have to give it up to the More The Guirre 7-12-05
7-13-05 Voyager Logo, a new gay and lesbian network from MTV Networks, is now available here in the Rio Grande Valley. Logo, an around-the-clock advertising-based network featuring films, original series and other gay programming, launched June 30. We here at the One/The Veranda have enjoyed viewing Logo since July 1st and are glad to have a channel that has entertainment geared for the gay commuinity but is watched by gay and straight people alike. HARD ROCK - NOT - It's HeArT RoCk now in Brownsville with a little more love. Brownsville and Valley people will now see more rainbows and I am not talking about mother nature. It was great to see a huge rainbow flag in front of the new Heart Rock (alternative club) in B - Town which used to be AK's. In my opinion, opening night was a success and a grand event. Many, many people from across the valley and the border came to experience the newest gay club in the RGV. Long lines to get in and anxious club-goers waiting for the show to begin. The music was mixed with a bit of everything; hip hop, 80's, regeton, internacional, dance and some disco. The entertainment was hot with a male and a female stripper, and two female impersonators which added some spice to the hot night at hand. Many members from RGV's Gay.Com Chat Room met up and had a fabulous night. It has been said that Valentino's is the #1 Alternative Club in South Texas and I am sure that Heart Rock is headed in that direction as well. Heart Rock welcomes ALL people, it is a diverse club which will cater to everyone, but significantly keeping gays & lesbians in mind and top priority. I encourage 'you' the reader to visit Heart Rock and check it out for yourself. Ibiza, Valentinos and Heart Rock will most definitely have to pamper their customers to ensure their presence week after week. I support all gay clubs in town and in essence, may the best club pack 'US' in. I believe that the 'gay crowd' want a place where they can be themselves, without being judged or stared at in such an awkward way. If we are going to a gay club, then we must be able to be liberal to dance, walk and 'smooch' as we please without a hint of hesitation! Get my drift? Just a reminder for the straight folks, Hurricanes, Legends, Envy, Cobbleheads Graham Central Station just to name a few are still in existance. ShAnTii
It’s about time! This week had some f#@king fabulous TV! I don’t normally watch much of the boob tube because I’ve become bored with all of the “sassy wife/stupid husband” sitcoms. (If you really want me to go nuts, add a bratty child to the mix.) And no, I did not love Raymond. But over the last few days, I’ve loved the TV! The American Idol finale was this week, and the adorable Okie won. You go, Hillbilly Girl! The Desperate Housewives finale was Sunday, and it was such a cliffhanger. Bree’s mourning scene was the best; I was so touched by Marcia Cross’s performance, even my bowels were moved. And Queer As Folk began its final season this week, which was both exciting and sad. Since its beginning, this groundbreaking show has dealt with very harsh subject matter: drug addiction, AIDS, same-sex marriages, adoption, pornography, sexual abuse. Such an array of topics leaves little room for subtlety, but plenty of room for brazen sex scenes, something that is usually left to softcore porn. To see straight actors portray such hot butt sex makes me want to wank off (and sometimes I really don’t have much of a choice). Yes, QAF can be dramatic, as gay life usually is (like it or not), but the show’s underlying premise is to live your life on your terms, and live unapologetically, gay or straight. As one QAF character once said, “I live my life as a man, a gay man. I live without apology and I live my life on my terms. I do not want to live as a ‘heterosexual light’ in a rehab suburban house with child in tow, and have the judgmental attitude to go along with it.” Amen, brother. Why do we have a need to behave like “faux heteros?” Are we living such volatile existences that we need to exile ourselves into the suburbs, only to look down on those who have a healthy homo outlook? How will we ever be able to unite if we continue to believe that one type of gay lifestyle is better than another? Unfortunately, many gay rights groups add more fuel than water to the judgmental fire. Rather than abide by the politics of gay non-profits, we should live our lives on our own terms. Don’t get the wrong idea; I’m all for equal rights. (Duh.) But having the same rights as our hetero brothers and sisters does not mean we have to adopt hetero lifestyles. So, to all you homos who are “faux heteros” – get over yourselves or get out of our lovely gay neighborhoods. Remember, it’s OK to be gay, it’s OK to live life on your terms, and it’s OK to have bravado and live unapologetically. Let’s leave the acting to the professionals. Thank you for reading the column and for sending me your letters. Remember to always love yourself first, and then go shag another. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend, and keep our gay brothers and sisters in the military in your thoughts. Kisses and licks to all! Now, if I’m going to make it through this QAF season, I’ve got to find better lube. Those sex scenes are hot and my love monkey hurts. Any suggestions? ![]() What started out as a simple way to waste free time has now evolved into new friendships as we have used one of the best chat rooms on the net to meet some of the Rio Grande Valley's exciting boys. Gay.com's RGV chat room is the meeting place for many of the valley's local gay/bi people. We have used the chat room to meet people that we would have never known and who would have expected for it to develop into a friendly group, The RGV Gay Dot Com'ers group. Each one being a unique individual chatting and now meeting in the valleys local clubs like Valentino's and the New Heart Rock (formerly AK's).
