Let's Talk About Resolutions

Sometimes a person spends more than what they really have or need.  I recall one important example my father would always tell me, " if you have to use your credit card, then that means you can't afford it."  It is always nice to get what one wants.  One thing that we have to ask ourselves is, "Do I really - really need this item?" With that been said, this is a definite way of saving a few extra dollars in our wallet.  Perhaps shopping at less extravagant stores or looking around for bargains is a big dose of savings in the long run.  I know that it is difficult because one always tries to be in the trend of things or to be the first to wear this and wear that.  Fortunately, I am not one of those folks, but I do have a handful of friends, whom names I will not mention, that like to strut in style and swear that they are the first to wear certain things before anyone else in town.  Let us all remember to keep a little more in the pocket than what we dish out at the counter.  Savings is a good resolution!

Trying to balance a full time job, a full time relationship, a full time family member, a full time friend and just a full time human being can really take a toll on a person at times.  Yes.  It is good to be an extraordinary co-worker.  Yes.  It is important to be the perfect companion.  Yes.  It is important to be the care-giving brother, son, sister, etc..  Yes. It is important to be a dear friend.  And Yes, it is overwhelmingly important to be a delightful human being possible, but, we are forgetting one important thing.  You need to give time to yourselves.  Invite yourself for some quiet time alone. Take a long or a short peaceful drive.  It does not have to be a spiritual or an emotional encounter.   A time of solitude and reflection is always a good antidote for self-examination and good food for the soul.  Soul searching is oftentimes powerful.  I know that it strengthens me a lot and helps me fix areas where I have faults.    Time is of the essence.  Use it wisely.   Time for yourself is a good resolution!

Friends!  That is a word that has many meanings to me.  At times, friends give me comfort and it makes me content knowing that I have many whom I call a friend. Friends also give me a sense of frustration.  It is difficult at times trying to be the best friend I can be to everyone.  It is not humanly possible.  I dare to meet one person that is flawless.  If you know of one, I applaud and commend him or her.  One will always have that 'one' friend or friends that  nags and complains about not receiving enough time, calls and so forth.   I may not be the best friend in the world but I sure try.  This is me.  In my opinion,  it is a two way street.  It takes two people to talk on the phone.  It takes two people to make love.  It takes two people to fight.  It takes two people to compete.  It takes two people to obtain a solid and honest friendship.  It is difficult to be the perfect and that 'good' friend.  A friend is someone who will listen to your problems and be with you during the best of times and during your down falls in life.  A friend makes you laugh and share your sorrows.  A friend respects you.  A friend should be honest.  A friend should not deceit or belittle you.  A friend should never lie.  And above all, a friend who loves and respects is the best friend anyone can ask for.  Are you a good friend?     Being a good friend is a good resolution!

Is there someone in your life that you appreciate?  How about going the extra mile and make him or her happy?   It does not have to be an expensive gift, dvd, cd, gift card etc...  Something home made and personal is always a nice gesture.  Make it come from the heart.  Feeling.  Generosity.  Compassion.  Do it out of the goodness of yourself for that person you appreciate very much.  I am sure that we all have that person that is always there for us and one that does favors for us and goes beyond the call of duty.  Perhaps a home cooked meal is an idea.  Nice music, a pretty center piece and candle light to make it extra special.  Treat that certain person out for a free day.  A day filled with quality time.  It does not have to be a movie, dinner or out to the club.  Try a free day at the park, a picnic by a lake or a stroll at the beach.  Fly a kite on a nice windy day.  Sometimes we are greedy with time and with our mother earth, we take the best things in life for granted.  Sometimes pleasing others have more meaning if it is not materialistic.  Try it.  I am sure that he or she will have a tale to tell to this beautiful never ending story.   Making someone feel special is a good resolution.

I know for a fact that everyone reading this article has either called in sick to work.  Perhaps all those late nights out at the club or at a friends house is affecting one's job performance.  Without a job, we will not have financial security for the following month or the current week.   Let's impress the boss so that when we go asking for a raise we have a better chance of it being granted.  What about that certain promotion we want?  Do we get to work on time?  Do I meet my deadlines?  Are we dependable?  We should want to be the best we can be at work.  Being a self-starter and taking initiative is a magnificent plus.  If we were to all have that fire in your belly attitude, perhaps one day we will be considered as the new boss.  If not the new boss, perhaps the second one in charge or the third, but in their eyes, you are a prime example of what a hard-core and dedicated worker should be.  In the end, isn't our paycheck from our job that makes it possible for us to go out to the clubs and all those other fun places?  Think twice before being naughty.  They're watching you!    Being a loyal and hard co-worker is a good resolution.

Addiction!  Wow, that is one hell of a word.  We all know what the word addiction means.  Here is what the dictionary states:  (Addiction is a compulsion to repeat a behavior regardless of its consequences. A person who is addicted is sometimes called an addict. There is a lack of consensus as to what may properly be termed 'addiction.')
This is a touchy subject that many of us do not like to accept and/or confront.  We are often offended when it is brought to our attention.  This is probably the resolution that I could write about the most, but I will write less and make it plain and simple as I can.   Are you consciences about your weight?  Are you a heavy smoker?   Do you drink a lot of liquor or beer?  Are you a an avid liar?  Do you enjoy insulting people?  Do you begin gossip?  Do you do or use any type of substance/drug?  Do you steal?  Do you cheat on your partner?  Do you practice safe sex?  Are you overly and sexually active?  Do you spend a lot of money?  Are you an addict from what I have mentioned?  _____________________ <-- This line is for you to fill in with anything I might of left out.   Sometimes just being a better person and respecting your body and own self is the best resolution there is.

Good Day..........!!!!
