2004
Well, It's been a while since we added anything to this web page. Our Web site continues to grow. After many attempts I believe that I finally got the hang of things. I can probably run someone else's web site too. Ha ha. I have learned so much in the month and a half that this site is up and running. I’ve been very busy with Speak Your Mind lately that I only have time to make changes every two days, with spring break and everything. And that’s that I only work at a real job twice a week. I still have to go out to Speak Your Mind and have a good time too you know. A few hours of playing cards, seeing my friends and an occasional drink, speaking my mind to my real friends when they are a bit miffed at me, returning calls or e-mails to those of you that request SYM info such as Special date reminders, finding answers to real life questions that are asked by web surfers, making newsletters for the "dog pound", giving massages to people with stiff necks, and the most important of all spending the weekend with my little Girl Sharon.

I was cancelled from work today so when they woke me up at 4:55am I got out of bed to make these changes to the Guirre page. You can find the old articles in the archive link below. The page was getting a little to crowded. Speak Your Mind continues to grow. None of the famous BBQ’s lately, but you can still go and have a few bottles and play some games or just catch the Guirre. I recently enjoyed the company of Michelle and her Boyfriend (now fiancé) Joe, and Ursula, Juan, and Pulga. Seems like I had just gone home a few hours earlier (well it was 5am when I left the night before.) I haven’t seen Monica like in 10 days and that’s a lot. DONDE ESTA MONICA! I need to send out our Speak Your Mind crew to make a cameo appearance at the local clubs and see what’s up so we can add the guirre here. I went to Ibiza a week ago and the place was “poppin”, I must say I had a nice time. Rhonda King was sitting at the bar as usual; he was kind enough to buy me a bottle of water after I danced with Ursula. Thanks giblets. Well, I must be off and make some more changes. We will be removing the Spring break page soon, need to start working on the Splash one next. Then I will cut my week down to 6 days in April as the new season of Queer As Folk will be starting and I disappear at 9pm those days to watch it. I’ll have to turn of all the phones and my Aim so that I won’t be bothered. "Don't forget your pineapple juice". Keep in touch, and remember, “A person’s a person, no matter how small”. Oh a reminder. Visit our forum and Speak Your Mind. I haven’t heard from J.P. yet. That’s what I’m waiting for. Later……………………………….Voyager

It seems that Vals always brings out the best in me no matter who I'm with or what day of the week it is. LoUie, Henry and I had a MARVELOUS time as in the good ol' days back in the sauna. But before anything let me share a major scare that I went through. I had stopped to buy some cigarrettes at the gas station. Well, as we trollied to the club in the Tank, I realized that I did not have my phone. Ofcourse I assumed that my partner in crime was taking care of it for me but he was not. That is when I realized that I had placed it in between my legs as I normally do to feel the vibration since I am not able to hear the ringer due to my loud played music. Lo and behold, we returned to the gas station minutes later to find my baby thrown on the floor. How lucky I am and how lucky my cell was that it was not picked up or driven over. LoUiE, thanks for making me remember to place it elsewhere rather than in between my legs. Now on with the evening at hand. At first, we were making plans to head out to Ibiza when a call was made to Henry by noneother than "Gilbert (the nurse). Apparantly, Ibiza was dead so we made new plans to hit "V's." For those of who who have not been to the Club lately, watch out because several changes 'for the better' have been made. First and foremost, 6 new multi colored lights were added which make a dramatic change on the dance floor. The massive siren that sounds extremely loud during certain songs is definitly a plus. Beautiful leather sofa/booths have been placed towards the entrance in a half circle with tables. Not too shabby looking! The show was chic and with good taste this time around. Honestly, Louie & I went because La Divina Garza our friend "David/Hey guys, what are you doing outside, why don't you come on in" was suppose to do a show. Well, he was taken out at the last minute. That was one of the reasons how we persuaded our good friend Henry to go. haha The strippers were as usual, sexy and hot and both of the Apollo Male dancers on this evening had looong hair. Though many new faces parade the club, still you can see some of the veterans here and there. I do have to admit, that more and more straight couples tend to invade Valentinos. Warehouse! (inside joke) I missed our usual, party SYM members such as: J.P., Christina, Juan, Tony, Miguel (to name a few) and ofcourse: El Famoso Sammy was missed the most! Monica, you must join us one day SOON girl. I danced a few songs with my bud. The dance floor was packed but not too tight. It was quite pleasant. The evening continued at 77 Restaurant where it was by far, the funniest show put by Louie, Hector and Henry. Each one could possibly be nominated for an Oscar, of course with ShAnTii sweeping the award. Gilbert was in awe and in shock with the stories told and the tears shed. What a night. Again, I will repeat - WHAT A NIGHT! Until next time - "Hey guys, what are you all doing there at home - why don't you come on over and join us at the club?"......................ShAntii

Howdy Citizens,
Oh what a wonderful night I had. It all started off with a few drinks (2 sm ones), I then went to Valentino’s to bring you the latest. I was there with the Fabulous ShAnTii and Lounatic when we ran into former Sym member Giblets who joined us at our table. It was a bit different knowing that Sammy would not be there to wait on us but Ricardo did pop up a few times and he made us feel like the old days were among us. We missed our friends and Val’s regulars Miguel and Juan. I take it they were busy as I did not receive a call from them. So as soon as I was invited, I jumped at the opportunity to go out and see what’s new at the club we all had grown to call home. We all sat together and enjoyed the night. There were plenty of new people. Maybe I shouldn’t say new as I hadn’t been there in a while. But as I soon could tell there were many old friends as they kept coming to our table to say hi. I say Hi again to Serge, Blas, and Paul. It was a night like this that made me nostalgic for old times. Of course the music was the same. Sure there were some new oldies played but it was like we can’t get away from that same songs I have heard in the two years I have gone there. I heard music from 1996, 1997 but none from 2004. The show was great, but I was a bit disappointed as I was tricked into going cause “David” was going to perform, but he was cut out at the last minute. Oscarin was the bartender at the top (here I thought he was gone). Michelle the Diva D’Marco had a table behind us, celebrating her win in Houston as 1st Runner up for Miss Gay Houston. Good Luck Michelle on behalf of SYM. May you go all the way! Giblets was entertaining us as he tried to steal sandwiches from her table. Hector was happy to see “carrot top”, well that’s what Louie told me. The club night ended as Gilbert invited us to Big 77 restaurant for some grub. Thanks Giblet’s. ShAnTii put on an academy award-winning performance at the restaurant. Why he even had me believing he was crying. Even Gilbert was sitting Louie down to calm ShAnTii. LOL. I hitched a ride with o’l Rhonda as I thought I would get lucky (j/k). And as suddenly as it all started, the night was over. It’s 6:08am and I’m writing this shit but I figured I better, as I won’t do it if my buzz goes away. I won’t be going anywhere today (Sunday) as I cleared my calendar to watch Britney Spears at the Onyx Hotel today. You are welcome to come join me at the Veranda to enjoy it with me. Until next time.......Voyager

Well, it’s hard to believe but the month is coming to an end. Soon April will fly by too. April is a month of mixed feelings for me. It’s the time I complete and mail my Income tax. I’ll make a note in my calendar to mail it on the 15th. I was amazed at the number of visitors to our site. 458 as of today. I did a search check since I placed our site on search engines, and under Google.com I found it after flipping several pages. I entered speak your mind, in the guirre and it was the second site listed. I entered speak your mind Brownsville and it was like on the 6th page. On AOL I entered speak your mind, a group of friends and it showed up better that way. I guess you have to try several key words. I try to make changes as often as possible to have you all coming back to visit. It’s difficult to stay up to date with the site as I spend a good number of hours on-line. I rely on you to send me something to post. April will bring us some Birthdays, Splash, and Queer as Folk the new season. “I’m Folked”. I can’t wait to see what the guys are up to this season. The previews look good. Well, gtg. See ya. ...............Voyager

BEWARE SYM Members - get ready for what LoUiE & I are about to share with you. NeWsFlAsH!! Introducing Amatuer Night at Val's every Sunday night and boy do I have two photos to prove it. Believe it or not, this time IT'S FOR REAL & IT'S HOT and out of this WORLD!! Just when we thought Val's was out of the picture and going extinct, they always seem to come around and throw a curve. MC'd by two top valley divas, (which names I forgot - lol ), free shots here and there, $ 1.00 all night cover, $1.00 beer, 50 cent shots, and specials on well drinks - get ready for an unforgettable night of "unique" entertainment that will leave your head spinning in a daze. Anyone and everyone is invited to do 'WHATEVER' talent they desire on stage and then hit the dance floor from: dancing, magic tricks, playing an instrument, singing, StRiPpiNg or simply the traditional DRAG SHOW! Well, lo and behold Val's first act or should I say 'comic act' came to be when a young guy (YES! You read correctly - a guy) attempted to sing Brittannys' "Toxic" & "Oops! I Did It Again." He received a tremendous encore from the stunning crowd of 25 people including personnel. Needless to say, he did do quite well and did have that minnie mouse on helium voice such as Brittany. I could've sworn I was in the set of American Idol. It seems that Brownsville has some raw talent that is bursting to come out. The show was great as Kayla D' Marco performed magnificently some latin songs!!! The Grand Finalee was a total BOMB - and I mean BOMB! Take it as you please, but as part of the line-up for the night was a local amateur stripper in the house by the name of Joe whos stage name is "Infarto." He has gone to visit members of SYM with DJ Checo. The crowd were on their feet and running away from him as he tried to get tips. I do have to admit the one that did get lucky and was fortunate enough to receive a lovely hump n' grind session on stage was the ever-so-famous 'monkey.' Those of you who do not know the 'monkey,' are better off not knowing who IT is. Someone let him out of his cage and boy did he get attacked. After announcing to the phenomenal crowd of plenty by Ms. D' Marco to cheer back the stripper onto the stage, there was silence! The crowd had to be bought, begged and given free shots in order to whistle, cheer and bring on the fabulous stripper back onto the spotlight. What a night and what a show it was. Take it as you please, but that is definitly ENTERTAINMENT!!! Raw, uncut, natural and fresh talent. Speaking of talent - SYM's ShAnTii will be gracing the stage very soon and has booked a date already with Oscar, DJ Checo and Canela. The date will be given later as it gets closer to the showtime. I hope to have ALL of SYM there gay, bi & straight to help me in making it an outstounding night with your presence as I take the stage to perform ________________!! Until next time, let the disco ball shine on you - because WE ARE ALL STARS FROM WITHIN!

Finally...The Guirre from JP

Well hello everyone, i am so sorry i have not sent anything or an update on whats going on at in brownsville or my drama life. Well let me see, where do i begin, not that i have much to say, i'd like to begin by saying hi to everyone, giving everyone my big hug and friendly loving kiss. An update from my last entry, damn this is gonna be slightly hard cuz i really haven been going out, but from what i've seen there hasnt been much going out other than hector giving competition at vals, making amature night coming back and standing his grounds and representing hes crowns. YOU GO GIRL!!! GIRL POWER!!!. Other than this, i've pretty much been really busy with school, keeping up, trying to maintain one of the highest grades in my class. Well my friends..this was just a quik update for now....i will do my best to send my weekly update. Who knows...i might come back and pull a BARBARA WALTERS on everyone, till next time, join me on 20/20.

Just a little news on Bucana's Wednesday night March 31st. La Divina Garza was greeting everyone at the door with a nice smile and a lovely outfit. It seemed as if we were at Vals at times during our visit to Bucanas due to the fact that a lot of Vals regulars were dancing and walking around including the elite employees from Valentinos. Tony "Tanya Lee," Danielle, Oscar and DJ Checo were amongst the good size crowd Wednesday night enjoying a night out on the town. I was extremely surprised to see Oscar there as he seemed to be having a great time. Ms. Michelle D' Marco sported some jeans, short sleeved short with a baseball cap and NO MAKE-UP. Extremely nonerecognizable. Woow! Speak Your Mind Members: Juan, LoUiE, ShAnTii and J.P., sat together at the usual table by the hole in the wall as Rose, Gilbert R., Gilbert O., Rose, Woody,Sandra and Christina (Big Momma) came over to say hello to us - or should I say at least one of them said "Hello" to almost all of us!! The Dj was playing some dam good music. A little bit of 80's, merengue, good videos, hip hop and dance pop moved our necks and ankles. (~.~) NO repeats from last time we went. Shout out to the DJ. Drinks specials were good though I do have admit the Vals $ 1.00 draft beer is 3 times more and in a much bigger glass! wink The Show! THE SHOW!! The show was finally at a normal time span. It wasn't its usual 1 hour and 1/2 long. They were able to maintain it to about 20 - 25 minutes which is extremely better - thank goodness! Oh, the in thing was to "put your finger in the air" and wave to the Dj to move on to the next song! haha that was hilarious. Even Woody was doing from the bar side. So everyone until next time and the next SYM report "PUT YOUR FINGER IN THE AIR!"

W hat’s up guys? I haven’t seen most of you in long time. I’ve been very busy lately. I was trying to catch up on some sleep. And I feel like I need more now. Ha Ha. I just finished the Splash page this afternoon. I hope we can all go like we did the last Splash 6 months ago. It just gets better and better. The next one will be the first week in October. I also worked a bit on the QAF page (Queer As Folk) the new season starts on the 18th so you know I'll be in hiding on Sundays. We’ll have to have a QAF party on Sundays so we can get together and watch the show provided that you don’t talk to me during the show. LOL. I remember the last season I had to stop the pool games just to keep the rooms quiet. I usually watch QAF with my friends. You’d be surprised to see some of the people who watch the series with me. Guys, Girls, both straight and gay. Some you’d never think would be excited for the show to get started and if they miss an episode they will ask what they missed or they’d hang around to see the re-run an hour later. I used to get Giblets every other Sunday, Pulga, and then Joel and Ruben sometimes till someone would come and ask them why they were watching it. LOL. I don’t think I can get David and Claudie to see it, (well, maybe Claudie but not David). It’s just TV show like any other except that this one has “no Limits” as SHOWTIME says. Tomorrow April the 8th is Monica’s Birthday so I hope I will be well rested for that party. I hear we might make an appearance at Val’s. We’ll see what happens. We’ll probably be drunk by 8pm and make it a Speak Your Mind Night. Either way it will be good. Some of my friends will be going to Dallas to see DJ Paul Van Dyk, Now that will be a great party. He is from Germany like me. He’s awesome. I would love to make arrangements and go but I don’t think I can clear my calendar so quickly.
Then there’s Easter this Sunday, Let’s see what happens. I have to see what Sharon will be doing so that I can spend Easter with her. I have spent all of her Easter’s with her. (7) We’ll keep your eyes on the site. Remember it changes almost daily. Some of the pages are now listed in the LINKS tab as I had to make room for Splash and QAF but this is just temporary, and I just remembered I have to remove that picture of Britney Spears above. And thanks to those of you that send me your pictures to post. But, no porn please LOL (well just for me to see) I'll have to post the porn ones in the members only page. Oh, I hope you like my favorite song that is playing on the home page. I wanted to put THE REASON by HOOBASTANK but I haven’t downloaded it yet. My Yahoo DSL computer is acting up and this AOL one is slow like all dial-up with thousands of junk saved in it. LOL. Later…………………..Voyager

Surprise Monica !!!!
April 8, 2004
I had received a call from Nellie, Monica's friend, about a month ago. They’ve been friends since Jr. High. She wanted to make Monica a surprise Birthday Party and wanted my help. I’ve never met or spoken to Nellie but, Monica would talk about her and her family to me, and the same of me to her, I felt that I was talking to someone I’ve known for years. She talked to me about her plan and loved it. I could hardly wait to see Monica's expression when she sees two different groups of her friends unite to celebrate her birthday. On hand to celebrate the occasion were Nellie and I, Susanna, Hector Rodriguez, Miguel, Laura and her daughter Barbara, Carmen Bush, Louie, Hector Lopez, Ursula, Nellie's sister Sara, her stepdaughter Jessica and Henry. Nellie catered the event with a vegetable tray, deviled eggs and chips for starters She prepared a delicious pasta with shrimp, spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, salad, hotdogs with grilled onions and bellpepers. All of Monica's favorites. Miguel made a big chocolate cake iced with chocolate mousse topped with glazed strawberries and nuts......and 30 candles. As for me , I made an experimental punch that Hector Rodriguez help me make of orange sherbet and club soda, orange juice, pineapple juice mandarins and cherries.......it was terrible Ha,Ha. But I did have my back-up of Coke , sprite, diet coke and some bottles of champagne. You never can go wrong with that. Anyways, back to the beginning. Mona thought she was gonna be treated to a restaurant by Nellie for her birthday. Nellie asked
her to pick her up at her moms house. We waited in the dark and as Mona opened the door we yelled "SURPRISE!!" She was a little startled, but more confused of having the SYM group at Nellie's mom's house. She asked,” What are you doing here?" After the hugs and kisses we all settled down to a wonderful meal. I almost forgot to mention the great job Nellie and Jessica did in decorating the room and tables. Being that Monica is a shoes and purse fanatic, the tables had little shoes and purses with the Louie Vuitton
logo. The party consisted mostly of eating and wonderful conversation. We did play one game that Nellie explained to us. We each had to write an occasion or funny thing that occurred to you while with Monica and she would read them aloud and guess who wrote it. After a good three hours of eating and talking, we helped clean up and headed to Speak your Mind for a quick drink and we were off to.... VALENTINOS. The group was smaller some decided not to join us On hand to continue the celebration were Monica, Henry,
Hector, Louie and I. We danced the night away to some great music by DJ Checo It had been a long time I hadn’t been there and we sat in out old spot where we began, "The Sauna." That room has so many memories... sniff, sniff. We called it a night and headed back to Speak your Mind at around 2:30 am Monica went home and the rest of us stuffed our faces with omelets, migas and pasta and spaghetti that we brought back from the party. This was a night to remember and another chapter in the SYM memories. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONICA!!!!! I Love You my friend
JUAN

Thursday, April 8th was a night to remember for SYM member Ms. Monica Fuentes. What was meant to be a night out at a restaurant with close friends turned out to be totally the opposite for the ever so great one. Delicious food, beverages, dessert, music and games were all part of the great spectacle at her surprise birthday party! It was exciting keeping it from her and even more exciting watching her face as she walked into a dark, filled room with anxious people waiting to burst out, "SURPRISE!" Deep inside I was wondering if she was like, "Oh, but I thought we were going out to eat?" haha A good crowd was at hand to make sure that her night was filled with a lot of fun and laughs at her "Quinceanera." wink What seemed hilarious was that several of us walked down the street to get to the house where the party was going to take place. We hid our automobiles at a friend's house and walked 5 blocks down the street as Laura chanted, "pastel $1.00 el pedazo" to the people watering their lawns. Well, at an impromptu moment after the party, we decided to take Monica for some dancing. 'SHE ACCEPTED THE INVITATION' and Juan, Henry, Monica, Louie & Hector were on their merry ol' way down the yellow brick road all the way to Emerald City - VALENTINOS. The music was great and the lights were beaming - NEW LIGHTS that is. The siren! Gotta love the SIREN....!!!! Woooooooooohoooooooo!!!! We all danced and danced and danced and danced and danced. Monica and Henry could've won the dance contest award as they danced a bit over an hour. Needless to say, congratulations to the birthday girl for dancing it up with her 'sexy high heels.' It was a wonderful and unforgettable night and definitly one for the books. Bye all and until next time - if you are with ShAnTii, you're under the spotlight! tehehe...

On Saturday April 10th we had a surprise visit from our friends Edith and Virginia from Austin Speak Your Mind. We had some great times with them in February when they took us out in Austin after we went to see the Phantom of the Opera. So we decided to do the same for them. We started out at Speak Your mind for a few drinks (Mexican and Sapphire martini’s) then we headed over to Valentino’s. There we joined fellow SYMer’s JP, Lette, and Vicky. After a hilarious show which included Michelle de Marco, strippers Infarto and two Apollo dancers, (sorry no pictures as our photographer was at Graham Central) we headed for the dance floor and danced the night away. It seemed like minutes when we realized we had been dancing non-stop for an hour and 45 min. The music was mixed perfectly as it continued to keep the crowd on the dance floor. DJ Checo outdid himself tonight. While dancing we made a call to Miguel who was stuck at work as we found ourselves dancing to one of his favorites "I drove all night". The phone was passed around to each of us to say hi and so that he can see that we were thinking of him as the song played on. Then we called it a night after a stop at the New big 77 restaurant. We returned to Speak Your Mind where we said goodbye to Virginia and Edith. Back to Austin for them, I figured Edith was getting ready for her next non-stop dancing as she will be attending DJ Paul Van Dyk’s show this coming weekend in Dallas. Well, Have a nice Easter Guys! See you next time.................Henry

April 30, 2004

Another BBQ at SYM. For a friend that we will miss for a long time. Vicky will be leaving us and move to Florida. Parting is such sweet sorrow. In attendance were Juan, Louie, Monica, JP, Chris, Lette, Michelle, Joe, Sal, Ursula, Henry, Boy, Miguel (Cameo appearance, Gilbert O., Leslie and of course Vicky.
The grill was manned by Joe. (Conrats my friend you will be graduating from Nursing this month) As we lounged in the Black Velvet Patio Lounge, we sipped on Champagne, medori splice, margaritas, coronas, salty dogs, etc. etc. etc…. as we reminisced about old times of when we first met. The food consisted of burgers, hotdogs, chicken breasts, ribs, sausage, and rice. (thanks mom). A nice chat followed in the patio table, everyone reminiscing about the good old times. Later everyone departed, one by one, Vicky, the last to leave, leaving her address, phone number a gentle kiss. Farwell our crazy friend. We love you. SYM.

Click picture to ZOOMLouie & Hector at ORGY Concert
Speak Your Mind Members Louie & Hector went to an outstanding and outrageous concert on Monday, April 26th in McAllen at the Villa Real. The name of the band - "ORGY!" The concert rocked as ORGY fans, jumped, yelled, and sang along to their songs; "Stitches, Fiction (Dreams in Digital) and Blue Monday" just to name a few. They played for a good solid 45 minutes. Opening bands were "Download" from Dallas, Texas and "The Hunter" from Houston, Texas. Both bands were awesome and set the mood for the 'main event' but ofcourse, it was incomparable to the ever so lethal and ruthless sounds of "ORGY!" The crowd was about almost 1,000 strong give or take a couple of dozen ORGY fanatics. Usually, some bands and artists DO NOT deliver as they performance LIVE, but let me tell you something - ORGY sounded and were powerful, energetic, engaged and interacted with the fans, and put on a monster of a show. I was overwhelmed and I can now say, that I am a 'NEW' ORGY fan. Being that ORGY is one of Louie's favorite bands and Jay Gordon one of his favorite singers as well, it was exciting to obtain back stage passes to meet, talk, get autographs, shake hands and take pictures with the group. IT WAS AWESOME- AWESOME - AWESOME! We also brought home 2 new pre-cd release from an upcoming album, 2 8x10 pictures (which the band signed after the concert), a t-shirt and pictures taken by the official SYM camera - ShAnTii's cell phone. (~.~) Would I go see ORGY again, Hell Yeah.....!!! This is definitly one for the books and one of the best nites for 2004 thus far, the best!!!

And yet another month has gone by. April was good considering it was Tax month. We had some great times this month. There was the SYM BBQ’s, the visits to Val’s, Bucana’s, AK’s and Ibiza. The SYM lounge visits and then Splash 2004 , the DJ Paul Van DYK show at Club liquid the all night party at Boca Chica beach on Friday the 23rd and then of course the New Season of Queer as folk.
There were a few sad things this month as well, the Departing of our friend Vicky, and the satellite problem at the Veranda (but we didn’t miss QAF). Well, I Just wanted to wrap up another month. It seems like just yesterday it was February and we were attending the Phantom of the Opera Play. And speak about Play. We are planning another SYM trip to Austin to see the Play Cats. However we were also looking in to going to QAF’s Babylon part of the Babylon tour at Club Liquid in Dallas but we are going to meet to see if we vote on which one to attend. There’s also Zenfest in Dallas (party all day & nite with thousands of people and a few dozen DJ’s) and a DJ Tiesto show at Club space in Florida (mmmm maybe an excuse to visit Vicky?) All of this for June. Wow decisions, decisions. Let’s see what the month of May brings us. (Don’t forget to check the SYM event calendar) Later…………Voyager

The begining of May

May has arrived with some beautiful weather. Of course the rain the last few days of April will bring us Mosquito’s but it will also bring May flowers. On Saturday May the 1st. We attended a nice Quincanera that had many familiar faces. As usual there was Juan and Monica and Myself, George and Norma were there too. After a bottle of Buchanan's we Showed up at Val’s to keep the buzz going. Monica was in the partying mood as she danced quite a bit. We then headed to SYM for some food and drinks where we were visited by Hector R. and his posse. Then Sunday started with a trip to the Flea market. That sure was a trip with JP, Tony and Cristina. Then it was time for our first meal of the day at Chopstyx. We were joined by Monica, Michelle, Joe and Lette. For some Sake, wine and a scrumptious meal. Everyone headed to SYM for some relaxation and games. A viewing of QAF and another meal and the night was over. 4am has come

May brings us yet another birthday. On May 7th we celebrated Joe’s (Martinez) birthday at Johnny Carino’s. In attendance for this even were Michelle, Juan, Miguel, Monica, Henry, JP, Tony, Ursula, Sal, Sonia, Vince, Julio and his girlfriend whom I cannot recall her name. Sorry, among others. The service was great , after a hearty meal we had some delicious chocolate cake covered with strawberries that Miguel had made for this occasion., even the staff enjoyed a piece it was superb. Then there was a time of mingling with each other and then it was time to head over to Speak Your Mind where some friends decided to go to Val’s for some dancing. We would also like to congratulate Joe as he graduates this month from the UTB Nursing program.

A BIRTHDAY PARTY TO REMEMBER

Who says you need party hats, blow horns, pinatas, cake and candy bags to have a good, crazy and fun birthday party? Simply leave it up to Speak Your Mind and that is EXACTLY what you get. Just gather some friends, a good location, some music and A STRIPPER named, "COBRA," and you can't ask for more. It was a fun-filled night at Club Bucanas as Tony, Monica, Louie, Hector, J.P., Lettie and the birthday boys, "Juan & Miguel" had a festive night in the merry ol' land of Bucs. As Juan and Monica were at the Alejandro Sanz concert at the Dodge Arena, SYM members Miguel, Louie and Hector were munching out and anxiously waiting back at home to hit the club for a fun and spectacular night that was soon to be at hand. The music was great, (I think it was salsa night) the club was packed and ShAnTii was still limping as he celebrated his one week as the Hunchback of Notredame. Many familiar faces were in attendance at the club and the ever-so-great Tony a.k.a. Tanya Lee sat with his friends at a table next to ours. But ofcourse the climax of the evening had to be none other than - C O B R A ..... !!! Infarto - eat your heart out. It was great so see our dear friend, Canela who looked stunning in a hot red feathered, sequin dress during her show/performance. Beautiful! I'm sure this is one birthday J&M won't forget especially since they were the center of attention for a brief moment, on the dance floor, infront of the stage in their very own chair and 1 adorable hunk of man! All I can say are those infamous words that Nat King Cole sings: Unforgettable - that's what we are! Gotta love it. Happy Birthday once again guys and thanks for everything - Snap a Z for - Speak Your Mind!!! ::snap - Z::

Goth/Industrial Friday Nights at Vals

Speak Your Mind Members and guests have I have some good stuff to tell and to write about. Sit back, read and enjoy! After months of driving up to McAllen to party in the attic at Metropolis for "Goth Night", has become a thing of the past since now - Brownsville's most popular Alternative Club - Valentinos, has "Goth and Industrial Night" with a mixture of eighties music and videos every Friday night. It initiated on Friday, May 7th and has been increasingly popular week after week. This is definitely bringing several of Zero Zone's originals and customers and upper valley people to Vals. Attendance is a bit over a 100 strong and it is definitely a good money maker for the club and absolutely much better than 'Tejano Night.' Honestly, I was a bit concerned that the public would not accept it, but in all retrospect, they have embraced it and I am more than sure, that it will be here for a while. How long I don't know - but Louie & I will stick around and enjoy the ride for as long as it is here and simply let it take us to wherever it wants too. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, it is because of Louie & I but mainly: Louie's persistence that Dj Checo got to know about Goth and Industrial Music as Louie gave him several Cd's to play on those dead and boring Fridays and Sundays when attendance would be at an all time low with 3 - 5 people in the house. We would give Checo the cd's and we would dance to the songs which is now luring people into Vals. We have been telling Checo about Goth Night since December. All I can say is that we have planted the seed and now we are beginning to see excellent and exciting results. I understand that not too many of you will even give Goth night the time of day because in your eyes and in your way of thinking Goth is evil, different and subliminally odd, but to me, it is a matter of simply being yourself, expressing who you are through music, visuals and feelings. It is like being in a world within another world and puts us in a trance, an emotional journey and brings out the "true" self of everyone. Let loose to: Lords of Acid, Camouflage, Apoptygma Berzerk, The Cure, Covenant, Front 242, Anything Box, Garbage, Berlin, Depeche Mode and tons more. I can't help to but to reminisce on the days of D' Hip House, Skin and the Alaskan back in the day when Industrial Music was and still is an extreme high for me. And remember Goth is not all about dressing up. It's NOT Halloween. It's about trying to understand yourself, life, find light within your own darkness, being yourself and let the music take over your body - your soul!! Thanks AcId...!

Another Month........

Well, Another month goes by and SYM is full throttle with all the partying going on. Its been a month of fun and sadness as we celebrated many birthday party’s and we hear of a tragedy involving Christian a guest of SYM who lost his life this past week involved in a car accident.
We have been busy with events that have limited our time in keeping making changes on this website but we will keep making changes as time permits. As you can read from the Guirre we posted some events but there were some that we have left out due to time limits. Some include the SYM bbq’s, visits to Val’s, Bucana’s among other events. We have a busy month coming up with planned events and the usual SYM parting. There is the DJ Tiesto concert in Dallas , the Performance of Cats in Austin which will be attended by some SYM members. We will keep you posted here on the SYM website. Then we will have to check out the performance of our own SYM DJ performing at one of our local clubs. This we will post in our Board in the next few days as soon as we get some conformation. Well, keep coming back to the SYM site for the latest and don’t forget to visit our Board, and send us some pictures, articles or guirre to post here. Stay Tuned. .............The Team
